Choosing a Wedding florist. After booking your reception and wedding venue, choosing your dress, rings and sorting out your guest list, what comes next? Flowers! Invariably, wedding flowers are lowish on the list of 'Things to do', primarily because most florists don't need 18 months notice in order to book you in for your big day. If you're getting married during the peak summer months it's advisable to start booking appointments and consultations very early on in the year. As with most big decisions it's preferable to see three different florists in your immediate area for a comparison. Certainly, you want to be guided by your professional florist,
it's good to do some research before you go on what flowers are in season, what colour scheme you're aiming for and what type of bridal bouquet you think will enhance your dress and general wedding decor. Coming onto price, every florist at the very least should give you a rough estimate of costs, including any extra costs such as delivery charges, labour charges etc. Personally we, at Rays Florist give our prospective brides an estimate, based on their requirements on the day they come for a free consultation. If you're on a budget then most florists will suggest flowers that will be within your price range. The price of different varieties of flowers, as well as the time of year that your wedding is taking place will have an impact on costs. Be advised that during peak periods such as Valentines, Mothers Day and Christmas flowers will double and sometimes treble in price due to premium flower prices from growers in Holland. Most importantly of all you need to choose a florist that you feel comfortable with and who will be open and honest to your ideas and suggestions. Gareth Sweet, Director, Rays Florist Ltd
